Finishes
Lacquer is the favored protective coating for the fine woods used in clock making. Bifano uses only the finest lacquers and lacquering techniques to protect and enhance the natural beauty of your wood.

Proper preparation of the raw wood helps guarantee a high quality finish. The wood surface must be sanded level and smooth. Stain is applied directly onto the wood so that it penetrates the grain evenly, then clear sealer is applied. Bifano produces a number of styles of lacquer finishes which are briefly described below:

Satin Finish
A satin finish that is not "shiny", and gives a classic retro vintage look to the clock. This finish will not show dust and fingerprints as easily as a gloss finish.

Gloss Finish
All finishes can be made into a "gloss finish" which is achieved by a two stage polishing of the final coats of lacquer to a fine bright luster. Gloss finishes appear to have more depth than satin finishes.

Distressing
A random distribution of wear marks, nicks, wormholes and a tooling application that resembles impressions from screws and nails.

Antiquing/Rub-Through
A random post-stain sanding of exposed corners and edges. Provides a complementary worn look to our distressing.

Specs
To look like fly specs found in really old wood items.

Glazes
Glazing is a very subjective treatment. Each clock becomes "one-of-a-kind" and unique in its appearance. Color consistancy is more difficult to control on glazed products. Some of the factors influencing color consistency are overall grain, density, stain color, thickness of the sealer coat, sealer sanding and overall size of the piece.

Crackle Finish
A random pattern in the lacquer that must have a glaze to be seen. Looks like wood that was blistered and very old. Must order a glaze color when using crackle.
